Pelican

This striking piece is one of my favorites. It was made from the major part  of the original oak tree roots that ignited my interest in driftwood.

It took me  a year to explore the  various possibilities and release a variety of sensuous shapes from within the wood.

The location of  stable, level mounting points for the three plate glass surfaces took a great deal of experimentation

By oiling and polishing the various surfaces, contrasting textures and colours have emerged—a wonderful contrast with the great grey, battered original.
